Gal wiharaya

                              POlonnaruwa 


    Uttararamaya,often  refferred to today as the stone temple ,is an ancient statue house  located in polonnaruwa.

Many civilized stone Buddha statues could be seen here, hence the name Gal Viharaya which came to be popular among the people in the 20th century.

  It was built by King Parakramabahu the Great. Located to the north of the Alahana Pirivena, it was formerly known as the 'Uttararamaya' which means 'established monastery' in the north. 
   The temple is 80 feet long and 30 feet wide and is built on a huge rock.

  • This can be described  as a place of  worship  for local and foreign  devotees.we have a duty of preserve  this historical  heritage.

Droughts, floods, landslides, hurricanes, wildfires, tsunamis.  The incidence of natural disasters is high today. Climate change causes natural disasters. Landslides and floods are examples of these.   E.g.-  Landslides and droughts caused by deforestation, floods  These can be controlled by man himself. We must stop the destructive acts against the environment and protect the natural resources. These disasters are affecting the whole world due to the role of human beings.
