Gal wiharaya
POlonnaruwa Uttararamaya,often refferred to today as the stone temple ,is an ancient statue house located in polonnaruwa.
Many civilized stone Buddha statues could be seen here, hence the name Gal Viharaya which came to be popular among the people in the 20th century.
It was built by King Parakramabahu the Great. Located to the north of the Alahana Pirivena, it was formerly known as the 'Uttararamaya' which means 'established monastery' in the north.
The temple is 80 feet long and 30 feet wide and is built on a huge rock.
